Strathendrick Men’s Seniors kicked-off their 2026/27 season with a pre-season friendly fixture against Cartha Queens Park at Fintry. Of course, both squads were short of match-practice but the pitch and weather conditions were ideal for open running rugby.

‘Endrick started well with quick hands and penetrative breaks. A few minutes in this paid off when Scott Dow crossed for the opening try. Soon afterwards, a CQP clearance kick was fielded by Findlay Kay who used his pace and strength to cruise past defenders for a second try. The home side were two scores up at the end of the first quarter – apparently belying the two leagues separating the clubs. No tries followed until the end of the second quarter when the visitors scored twice in quick succession but Gregor Duncan finished off another good handling move for a third Endrick try.

CQP started the third quarter the stronger and sharper with a sizeable squad and some big forwards: Endrick began to toil and conceded two more tries. But just as spectators thought that the heat and fitness were beginning to tell against Strathendrick they scored a fine try by Finn Walford; another by skipper Stevie Taylor and a third, again by Walford.

CQP scored two of their own to edge the final score 7 tries to 6 but it was a useful work out for both squads with the league fixtures beckoning in three weeks’ time.
