A Friday evening kick-off at the fantastic facilities of Dalziel Rugby Club was ushered in by the Saturdays being dominated by the Autumn internationals. A pleasant November evening and a good crowd set the scene for an enjoyable, entertaining match.

With a good squad – featuring a healthy mix of young and not-so-young players - Strathendrick 2XV swept downfield from the start, taking play to the opposition. After a series of drives James Cuthbertson crashed through the home defence for the opening try – after only 7’ – converted by Pat Beaumont.

The visitors kept up the momentum, releasing the rather rapid Scott Dow for the second score, again converted by Beaumont. 14 minutes gone: 0 – 14.

But back came the home side with their strong pack leading the way. Endrick defended stoutly but gave away penalties and eventually the pressure told: 5-14 after 25’.

Dalziel kept the game in the visitors half but then Endrick broke clear and, after great support play, Murray Calderwood crossed for another try, converted by Beaumont.

Half Time 5 – 21

Endrick started the second period on the front foot as the game went to and fro. An illegal stop by Dalziel resulted in a yellow card and – following a series of determined forward drives – Andy McTavish crashed over for another score, converted by Beaumont.

Straight from the resulting kick-off came the try of the game: the ball found James Cuthbertson on his own 10m line and he set off up field at a gallop. Swatting players aside - he relived memories of spectacular performances in years gone by – as he out-sprinted the flailing home defence, running 60m to the line – cheered on by teammates and supporters alike.

Sadly, a team yellow card followed for JC after Endrick continued to give away penalties. Dalziel weren’t finished however and came back to score the final, unconverted, try of the game.

The final score Dalziel 2XV 10 – 33 Strathendrick 2XV, didn’t really reflect the balance of a fairly even contest but the Fintry boys took their chances well in a convincing performance in a great sporting atmosphere. It was also a close understanding in one key area as stalwart 8, Ewan "Pieman" McKay played alongside his son Callum at scrum half.

The Duff Christmas Trees Man-of-the-Match was awarded to young Andy McTavish for an all-round dynamic performance. Well done Andy!
