The Strathendrick Women gather on Monday evenings at Balfron Campus to develop their skills - and enjoy each-others’ company – playing TOUCH RUGBY. This week, Monday 1 December, a game had been arranged against the McLaren Women from Callander. It was teeming with rain as the players gathered but spirits weren’t dampened.
The game was played to full Touch Rules with 8-a-side (a more demanding and disciplined version than Tartan Touch) and both teams displayed fine handling in attack and good organisation in defence in the less-than-ideal conditions. With a mixture of youth and experience on both sides the match was very even. Part-way through the first period, Rebecca MacGillivray ran a great attacking line and breached the McLaren defence for the opening score to Strathendrick. McLaren were displaying some particularly good passing skills and Donna McGrellis capitalised to cross for the visiting team, evening up the scores.
The brisk, non-stop pace was maintained in the second period when Kirsty Morgan broke through – showing her guile and experience – to re-take the lead for the home team; but with pace and determination, Esme McLeod struck back for McLaren.
Final score: Strathendrick Women 10 McLaren Women 10
A fun, competitive but friendly fixture – in the summer socialising can follow!
