The Strathendrick Women mustered at Callander Primary School on a pleasant August Saturday afternoon for the McLaren RFC Women's Touch Rugby Tournament.
'Endrick played the first tie against the hosts and with a healthy squad set about the challenge with enthusiasm. The 'hybrid rules' being applied confused players and supporters alike to start with but everyone soon adapted and settled into their stride. SRFC Women played well in the first period - with McLaren edging the second.
Next up was 'Endrick vs Allan Glens. The Fintry team showed their experience and tactical nouse to use the rules to their advantage and took a healthy lead. Allan Glens - supplemented by a welcome couple of Blairgowrie players - gave a good account of themselves and struck back with some good tries.
The third tie - again two periods of 10 minutes - featured the quick young players of McLaren versus the canny Allan Glen squad for another good encounter.
Having completed the 'round robin' the 'Endrick Women were keen for more game time so the full 12-woman team played a further period against McLaren and then another against Allan Glens - showing some silky ball-handling skills, tactical guile and defensive determination for a thoroughly entertaining end to the afternoon.
Huge thanks to McLaren for organising such a welcome event, for their generous hospitality and the great sporting spirit of all involved.
Strathendrick Women practice touch rugby every Monday evening at 7pm at Balfron High School: new players are always welcome.
